It's OK Mal - you can insult me as much as you want - I'm sure it would all be in the best possible taste ! And you have never upset me (too thick skinned !)

Re: Spongy Bracket

Could the 'common name' and 'scientific name' titles at the top of each column not be clickable so that you can easily search using either?

The home page of the fungi reference section allows you to choose either route when searching the A to Z:

Re: Spongy Bracket

Hi David,

After several clicks I have found what you're referring to on the home page, but if I click on the A to Z icon on the forum page it defaults to common names - I just think it would be a lot more intuitive if you could then just click on 'scientific name' to get them listed like that. I wouldn't have found the scientific name listing if you hadn't told me where to look and I consider myself to be reasonably web-literate.

Unfortunately Morchella, I can only point out what I have discovered from navigating the site myself and have no control over how things are set up; that's down to the admin staff, and it's only recently that the A to Z icon has superseded the route via References as the most direct.

Like you and several others I have argued long and hard against the emphasis given to the 'common names' in that most direct route to the A to Z which you have described above. But Stu's reasons are well documented elsewhere on site: Post#14 http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...ice-board.html , highlights one explanation, the others are buried a bit deeper, but if I find them I'll let you know.

Re: Spongy Bracket

I have asked Stu if we can link directly to the scientific name from the 'Fungi of Britain A to Z' link and also have some way to toggle the view once there. I think this may help in the short term.

I'm also going to pick up where I left off with the 'Quick Fungi ID charts' again, but it will take time.

If you remember:

Quick Fungi Identification Charts

Oops ... I've just realised how this original thread has moved subject I'll move it sometime to the ' Improving our Fungi Resource Centre' thread if no one objects.

We have reached 600, and I still haven't trawled my way through the dung thread which has been rendered such a valuable asset by the conscientious foraying and microscopy work of John Parsons.

A remarkable achievement by WAB members. Worthy of a celebration drink or two!

Congratulations to everyone. I'll see if I can get another 100 at Longshaw this weekend

I've spent a bit of time on a certain entry and I seem to be doing that slot- I really enjoy putting all of the information into the textboxes.

Just a quick one though, is it okay to go through entries adding photos and information?

This one was blank before I played with it;

Inky Mushroom - Agaricus moelleri | Wild About Britain

Hope that sort of thing is alright

Nick you are a shining star mate - another 550 like that and I'll put your name forward for an MBE (My Best Efforts)

Re: Improving our Fungi Resource Centre

Well I've been doing the Amanitas. I'm off out to hunt some species with Elle now, but I've done Agaricus moelleri, Amanita muscaria, Amanita rubescens, Amanita phalloides and Amanita phalloides var. alba. Will continue when she falls asleep tonight- plus I've got to do three fungi illustrations for the Hampshire 'Shrooms group I'll try and do one tonight, though I need you to PM me three species that you wish to have illustrated and in which habitat (Otherwise i'll never be able to choose).

Cheers,

Nick
