Is this a fungus??
I saw this near Wastwater in the Lake District in August and thought it looked quite odd. Is it a type of fungus, something more sinister or just something else??



and a close up.



The more I look at it the more gruesome it becomes so I would be grateful if someone could put my mind at rest!

Hmm. It /could/ be the remaining stem of a bolete, and someone or something has knocked off/pulled off the cap... Or it could be an old manky sausage that's been chucked out!!

Now I think about it there was a dinner party going on nearer the water(truly) so you never know!
As long as it's not someone's decomposing finger I'm happy!!
