| | | Some brackets for ID please Hi,
These were all found this month in Bostall Heath Woods, SE London.
No 1 is the largest one, about 8 or 9 inches (20-23 cm) across...
No 2 was a bit smaller, about 6 inches (15 cm) across...
I'm not entirely sure that no 3 is a bracket as, when seen from underneath, there are gills and a stem. This was also about 6 inches across and, unlike the first two was growing on live trees...
I had to lie flat on the ground to get that last shot. Some poor dog-walker saw me and thought I'd had a heart attack. He was just reaching for his mobile to call an ambulance when he realised what I was up to! Perhaps I should copy Granny Weatherwax and put up a cardboard sign saying "I Aten't Dead!" (If you're not a Terry Pratchett fan and are wondering what I'm on about all is explained here: Granny Weatherwax - Discworld & Pratchett Wiki).
Thanks in advance for your help with these.
Dave P.

| | | Re: Some brackets for ID please The brackets are Ganoderma australe, Southern Bracket.
The mushroom is Pleurotus dryinus, Veiled Oyster.

Just to make sure I've got this straight, nos 1 and 2, the first four photos, are all the same species?

| | | Re: Some brackets for ID please They are likely to be all the same species at different stages of growth. Can't be 100% sure from photos.
