| | | ID - Cauliflower-like fungus clump Pretty untidy looking clump approx 10" across growing at base of tree in Bedfordshire park. Nearest I could find in my books is a Sparassis species?
Help appreciated as always.

| | | Re: ID - Cauliflower-like fungus clump Sorry to put a downer on you Bruce mate, but this specimen certainly isn't Crispa, or any other Sparassis. To me, it looks like a Hen of the woods - Grifola Frondosa that has been attacked/destroyed in such a way that ID is difficult. If you look, there appear to be parts of its bracket on the floor that have been removed from the specimen.
Wait for the pros though  |

Yes it was a real slugs breakfast - in fact I wasn't sure if it was a fungus at all when I first saw it. I guessed it might have reached the point where it would be necessary to check dental records to get a firm ID on the victim....
