| | | Edible Fungi ID Books Hi there,
Whilst travelling into work the other week on the bus I noticed an article in the free Metro newspaper reviewing a fungi ID book, with the author taking the reviewer on a fungal foray to put the writings into practice.
Thing is, I can't remember the title of the book and really want something I can take out in my rucksack to ID the tasty ones while out walking.
Any ideas? Or alternative suggestions? |

| | | Re: Edible Fungi ID Books Of course my last post doesn't help you with your book hunt its just an interesting article.
Some good authors to look up are Michael Jordan, Roger Phillips, Peter Jordan. Their books tend to be bigger though so you can't take them in the field but very useful for cross referencing your finds at home. Collins do a Gem book of Mushrooms and Toadstools, which fits nicely in the pocket.
Also Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage have just brought out a mushroom book. I don't know what its like.
Cheers

| | | Re: Edible Fungi ID Books Hi,
This is one of the best books I've come across :-
MUSHROOMS and other fungi of Great Britian and Europe by Roger Phillips,
ISBN 0 330 264419.
The only two drawbacks are, for every fungi you find that IS edible there are two poisonous ones that look extremely like it .
The other is it's size, you need a rucksack to carry it in, but one of the guys in the know said the new version is smaller, my edition is dated 1994.
Max.
