Identify Big Mushroom

It's almost 12 inches across the top, with a dark-yellowish underside.

I though it was a type of Boletus, but it's massive.

It is indeed a Bolete. But what who knows?

It's got to be an old Cep. Boletus Edulis.

In further backup to my ID, if you look in the Gallery at FungiJohn's images, amongst the many beautiful images of fungi, there is a photo of him with a monster Cep! It looks like yours. Well, I think it's a Cep in his photo...or, If you had have found it a while ago, you could have been eating well

Looking at it again I would say that it is a Cep.

Well, not many other Boletes grow to such sizes do they? Badius certainly doesn't in my experience...

Managed to get a few more shots of this behemoth ... might help to give us a definitive identification.







I notice it's been gnawed at, would that have been rodents, or a bird?

It wasn't growing when I found it ... It was upside-down on the grass bank at the side of the road. I 'posed' it for the first picture.

Got to be a Cep...Which is a good sign for you. Was it sitting on the edge of a forest upturned? You might want to venture into that forest
