Chaka and I had a lazy day in the build up to England's match against France but we are going to Virginia Water this morning en route to lunch with my daughter.

| | Re: A day out at Alice Holt Forest Park... Thats an impressive list of finds Nick, coupled with some great shots. At this rate you'll know more of the hotspots than I do, and I live in the forest
When you say forest park, do you mean the area surrounding the visitor centre or did you take a much wider route ? |

Hi Nick, it looks like you had a good day out and some grat images to prove it. I hope you are as fortunate when you take your French friend.
These small orange fungi look like some I found in a pot with some geraniums in the garden a few weeks back - I don't know if it is of any help but these were ID'd for me as possible Gallerina sp. |

| | | Re: A day out at Alice Holt Forest Park... Lovely pics Nick. Alice Holt sounds like a really good spot. We did see a nice Fly Agaric today, they are great aren't they.
Hey good luck with the Horn of Plenty hunt. I've never found one.
Glad you found a cep Stewy, that bodes well for the Bay Boletus I'm after. I don't mind if I find the odd cep too of course! |

| | | Re: A day out at Alice Holt Forest Park... Thanks Sarah, Alice Holt is massive, so there's plenty of variety in both fungi and foliage. I've not come across any Ceps or Bay Boletes there so far. I found a Red Cracking Bolete yesterday though...and a Slippery jack.
To answer your question Mike, I literally walked from Bentley train station heading towards the forest park...I was near the visitor centre at one point, then I wandered into some bushes and emerged about 5 miles away I love getting lost. It's great. I'll be able to point out some good spots when we foray soon

David | Virginia Water was closed to the public due to F and M so after a lovely al fresco lunch at the Wheatsheaf we headed off to Painshill Park near Chobham, where my 4 year old granddaughter spotted Copriuns comatus, Suillus luteus, Xerocomus chrysenteron and, would you believe, in the garden beds adjacent to the cafe patio, Agrocybe rivulosa. It was a lovely day out!

| | Re: A day out at Alice Holt Forest Park... There are some really nice pictures here.Do you know the website I edit Alice Holt Forest Hampshire - Home Page It's a very new website which is slowly building up content about the Forest.
I'd really appreciate some pictures .Do you mind if I just nick them from the gallery? Or would you send some (to info@aliceholt.org)
What would be BRILLIANT is a species list or EVEN BETTER a species list accompanied by a short article. Any kind of format such as Word would be fine. How about it? |

| | | Re: A day out at Alice Holt Forest Park... An illustrated article about the Fungi of Alice Holt would be brilliant Nick. Hope you get some good shots today with Mike Young (Mikeakabigman) who has already contributed to the Alice Holt site, which needs some serious maintenance by the way.

Look forward to that. I'd gradually like to build up a section on each major topic: birds, trees, flowers, fungi etc etc.
A bit daunting but all in good time.
As for David Cybershot's comment about the site needing some "serious maintenance"...well ! Cheeky monkey!!!!
It did get very o.o.d. over Aug & Sept when I was not around but it's pretty well had a makeover since. Are you looking at an old "cached" one David or are there actually some nasty gremlins I need to know about??(Apart from my spelling errors which are a constant source of wonder, even to me!)
Drop a line to info@aliceholt.org if you spot anything specific that needs fixing
Cheers PB
How R U Mike (akabigman)?...long time no see/hear. Jamie is a bit worried about Badger set which he successfully got contractors to avoid by re-routing their heavy machinary to different access route. Still if that Government vet gets his way they'll all be gassed (Here's hoping not)
