Yep I've got a good patch here alright! I found a huge one of these here last year, about 9" x 6" x 5" but I wasn't quite 100% sure about it and I thought it looked a bit past it's best so didn't try it. This is the second one I've found this year actually, but the first one was all mouldy... |

Nick  | We found one a couple of weeks ago. I did run it under water to clean it as this is one of the few fungi you can do this with. I had it cut, dipped in batter and fried. Nice texture. Supposedly nice if you make the batter with beer instead of water or milk, but i just had it with normal batter. Added some chopped chilli to the second batch of batter next day, which was nice too.
A couple of years ago there was an abundance of them in our local woods. |
