| | | Unknown rose coloured toadstool... Any thoughts on this one? I've had a look through my three books and cannot spy anything quite like it... |

| | | Re: Unknown rose coloured toadstool... I'd say it was Mycena rosea, which is closely related to Mycena pura and has a radishy smell.

| | | Re: Unknown rose coloured toadstool... Many thanks, looks right.. For some reason Roger Phillips has virtually no Mycena species but thanks to your ID I did find it in Courtecuisse's book hidden down in the corner of a page, it all seems to tie up.
The smell has faded quite a bit since I picked it about 1.5 hours ago but the Mrs says yes its got a faint smell of radish, and I noticed when I picked it that it had quite a distinct smell but couldn't put my finger on what it was!! |

| | | Re: Unknown rose coloured toadstool... That's the way with mushroom smells. You can't quite place them until someone puts the idea into your head and then you can see what they mean but you wouldn't have thought of it yourself.
Also you should always smell a mushroom as soon as you pick it, because some smells do fade quickly. But then again, some smells develop more strongly if you keep them enclosed in a plastic pot for a while eg the curry smell of Lactarius camphoratus.
