| | | Fungi ID's please (lots!) Hi all,
Got 10 piccies here of fungi that I need identifying please. The first 8 were taken in the same patch of woodland at Stocks Reservoir and the last two along an open footpath with mainly birch trees.
Anyway here goes....
1. Sorry this ones blurry... There were loads of these!
2. Had to use my flash as it was so dark under the canopy...
3.
4.
5. Is this the same as the purple one above?
6.
7.
8. Is this the same as the one above?
Not a bad selection for one spot and infact I have a couple more from that very same area that I haven't posted yet!
9.
10. These were big at around 10cm or so...
I didn't touch any of them by hand but just used a stick to clear away debris for photographing them.
Thankies in advance!

| | | Re: Fungi ID's please (lots!) If I were to say what I thought they were from the top of my head, i'd say;
1. Russula ochroleuca - Common yellow russula
2. ?
3. Possibly Hypholoma fasciculare - Sulphur Tuft
4. Laccaria Amethystina - Amethyst Deceiver
5. Laccaria Amethystina - Amethyst Deceiver
6. ?
7. Either Amanita Phalloides - The Death Cap, or Amanita Vaginata - The Grissette
8. Either Amanita Phalloides - The Death Cap, or Amanita Vaginata - The Grissette
9. Possibly Hypholoma fasciculare - Sulphur Tuft
10. Amanita Pantherina - The Panther Cap.
Number 10 is more than likely a Panther rather than a Blusher due to the fact that the flesh is snow white and the cap is a darker brown with white spots (They just look a bit dirty!)
I'm absolutely positive about 4 and 5...and fairly confident about 1,3,9 and 10

| | | Re: Fungi ID's please (lots!) Blimey that was quick!
Nothing particularily unusual in my haul then? - just wondering!
I noticed on some other threads that peeps have picked one of the same that they're photographing and laid it beside - is this to help ID and should I do this too?
Like I said I have quite a few more to ID, but I'll do them tomorrow (don't want to swamp the Gallery with shrooms anymore today lol!)
So 2 and 6 have got you baffled atm!

Well, going by the haul, i'd say that a Panther Cap is pretty good. Shame about the state of it, but i've been hunting a while and still never seen one! |

Well, going by the haul, i'd say that a Panther Cap is pretty good. Shame about the state of it, but i've been hunting a while and still never seen one! | The Panther Cap was right under a silver birch on the pathway. One was erupting out of the soil and the other had been shifted about a foot away
Ahh, now that's what I was going to ask... what animals actually eat fungi? I was wondering because of these....
The were pretty big - stalk being up to about 14cm on some and 'every' one that I saw (even off the beaten track) had been be-headed and the cap looked like it had been nibbled at! Deer maybe? I did see deer tracks.
One of the caps...
Sorry mods if I posted to many today
Thanks for your help so far guys!
