The walls have ears!

Hi

Does anybody have any ideas on what these might be?

They are growing on the walls of a damp basement!

(sorry about poor pics - taken on a camera phone, not mine)

It's possibly Peziza domiciliana which is the usual species to be found in domestic buildings.

However, without microscopic analysis it would be difficult to say exactly which species it is.

Another species commonly found on mortar or plaster in wet cellars and garages is Peziza cerea.

As John says, these species can only be reliably identified with a microscope.

Agreed. Looks like P. cerea to me. The species we most often have brought in by anxious householders for identification.
