| | | 2nd opinion please on Amanita Hello all
I’d like a second … third opinion on this Amanita please. I just wish I had taken it home for further investigation.
Found under Oak and very well protected from the rain! I don’t believe this to be A. rubescens
Many thanks - John |

| | | Re: 2nd opinion please on Amanita I'd say that this is the same as David's mushroom which i've linked below. As i thought, they both have similar colour bruising/shape/size etc...
Thoughts? I'd confidently say that they aren't Death Caps...
Here is David's... http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...hp?i=40919&c=8
Strange...
Nick
p.s Just noticed that the caps are very similar too. Volval remains on cap but no apparent volva... |

I took mine home and got a white spore print and later the cap flattened and the partial veil completely covering the gills developed into a white hanging ring at the top of the stem. |

I won't mention it John, and I'm sure nobody spotted you were a little 'blusher' |

| | | Re: 2nd opinion please on Amanita Apart from the unusually strong red staining - which may be a symptom of wet conditions - it looks like typical Amanita rubescens to me. The cap colour tends to wash out to a paler brown and the volva at the base is only a swelling with a few scales, rather than a sac.
Nothing else on the British list of Amanitas springs to mind.

| | | Re: 2nd opinion please on Amanita Surely A.Rubescens would bruise red/pink when the stipe has been cut in half shown in John's first photograph? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
