| | | Stinkhorns A week ago I came across 29 perfect stinkhorns packed across approximately two square metres of damp woodland near Abergavveny in Wales. How frequent are such "colonies", and was this particularly unusual at this time of year? In an normal year if I see (or smell!) a couple of stinkhorns I think I've done pretty well.
Any comments welcome. |

I saw six together at the weekend but I've never seen 29 together.

| | | Re: Stinkhorns As above, I've seen a few stinkhorns in 'colonies'... Maybe 29 over about 50m square! Did you get any photographs? Would love to have seen this! |

| | | Re: Stinkhorns Funnily enough, one of the places I've seen (and smelt) the most stinkhorns at this time of the year was near Abergavenny! (Actually, up the road by Crickhowell.) Nothing in those concentrations, though.
Must have been a treat for the flies, but not for your nose. |

| | | Re: Stinkhorns I spotted several stinkhorns yesterday, but could not get a decent photo as something had eaten them and caused them to collapse, any ideas what would eat these fungi? |

| | | Re: Stinkhorns It's funny, i've often thought that. But i think the fungi decays in such a way that it appears to look like it has been eaten. Well, that's what i thought anyway...not sure.

| | | Re: Stinkhorns There were plenty of decaying ones too, as well as the 29 I counted. And I saw at least another two or three just starting to emerge. It was quite a show! |

| | | Re: Stinkhorns I've seen quite a large patch in the middle of Gwaelod-y-Garth woods, Mid Glamorgan, fairly substantial, though def not as large as yours.

| | | Re: Stinkhorns Stinkhorns are in their element at the moment - 126 at Delamere Forest and that was just a small area. 3 Blushers too so it just shows what a bit of damp weather can do.
I suspect a good fungal season is on the way and it may last well into next year. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
