Question Safe or Not??
Can anyone ID this, it was found in a small wood egde in Livingston.

Hi Kelek...

My first thoughts of this mushroom take me back to last autumn when i found a similar specimen. My research then pointed in the direction of Amanita Strobiliformis. Personally, i'm not sure how 'safe' it is. I certainly wouldn't consider it in a culinary sense. I knew at some point i'd have to bring up the ol' saying. If in doubt, leave it out.

Its in such a poor condition the ID would be difficult! As for it being safe or not, I think finding out if something is safe from a photo is a tad risky.

It looks to me like a very chewed Russula of the foetens group (most likely R. subfoetens, which is common in the south of Scotland). Difficult to be sure though.

Safe? Well, unlikley to explode!
