What is this and how did it come to be growing against my house?

This looks very much like 'Palamino Cup' - Peziza repanda. Common by brick walls and burnt ground. Do you have BBQ site nearby??

Wow, thanks for the ID! I've checked out the other specimen in the gallery and some other pics and it does look very similar.

Um, there's a discarded instant BBQ tray from well over nine months ago (since I moved in, student house) nearby... and my friends have been having lots of BBQs three doors away... but I don't think that fully explains it!
