Is this a Fungus or a Slime Mould?.......


Outhwaite Wood, Roeburndale, Lancashire - 24.03.07

Found on the felled stump of a broad-leaf tree. It was spongy on prodding. I have no idea whether it is a fungus or a slime mould.....can anyone help?



Outhwaite Wood, Roeburndale, Lancashire - 24.03.07.

Found under the bark of a rotting silver birch (Betula pendula). There were hundreds, maybe thousands of these balls/cups. Each ball was about 0.01cm diameter.

I can't find reference to them in any of my id books, can anyone assist?

I've had a browse through the Gallery.....FungiJohn has an example of Lasiosphaeria spermoides, which I believe answers the query about photo number two.
