My mother-in-law photographed this on Borkum island in the North Sea. It looked to be in a marshy bio-reserve. Is it some kind of houseleek?

Can anyone please recommend me any perennial plants that are suitable for shade/semi shade conditions and that would be good for a wildlife garden(or a website with a list)preferably attractive plants if possible but dont necessarily have to be(they will look better than plain soil!)

Many thanks
