This attractive toadflax was in flower at Abbey Wood Station, Filton, a site where I've found all kinds of unusual aliens in the past. It's unlike anything I've ever seen before; the nearest I can get is Linaria bipartita, but I'm far from convinced.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - these were in flower on November 17th, by the way :)

At the time I thought it might turn into a foxglove or possibly a mullien but over the last week/10 days it has had a growth spurt and has more leaves which are bristley and the stem is quite thick and covered in hairs. There is a flower spike

And when I had a look today there are secondary flower spikes showing. The leaves have no scent.

What do you think?

It it straight and strong, has soft oval slightly serrated leaves which grow alternately. Each leave has two fluffy mini leaves (what are these called?) at the bottom of each stem near the trunk of the plant. Each set of fluffy bits has a bud.

Any ideas anyone? I want to give it a place in my garden as long as it's not a giant of a plant (I have planted 9 trees in the last 3 years already!!).

I have searched high and low for a matching leaf and been through all the tree identifiers but no luck so far.

You lot are fab and someone will know what it is.

Your help will help me give it a proper place to live in the garden.

Cheers all!

Hi All,

I am trying to develop a planting plan for a site which already has a line of mature trees (including copper beech, horse chestnut and yew) growing alongside a nearby road.

We would like to plant a line of shrubs underneath to discourage access however I am not sure which native plants would tolerate the dense shade cast by the copper beech in particular. The only shrub I can imagine growing with any success is holly.

Does anyone have any other suggestions. The site is in West Yorkshire.

All ideas welcome
