| | | Petition against school building in park Hi all,
Here in Hayes they are wanting to build a Primary School over 1/3 of a lovely park/common area we have. It provides a place for a large number of gulls and garden birds, and also species like Nuthatch and Spotted Flycatcher. I'm not sure what other types of animals are there, but building this school would have an impact on local wildlife. Hayes doesn't have too many green spaces like this left, and no doubt a few years down the line they will want to build a Secondary School over the rest of the park.
Would people kindly help in signing this petition against it? Keep Botwell Common: The Council is planning to build a new primary school on Botwell Common and Lake Farm Country Park
There's more info on the link regarding the campaign.
Thanks,
Nige |

What sort of habitat does the Common provide? You know - flat uniform-length grass the whole way, or are there notable-lengths of hedgerow or other?
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Petition against school building in park Hi Jason,
A bit more info on our Council's website here: London Borough of Hillingdon - Lake Farm Country Park
There's also some history info on the petition site. I forgot to mention the Skylarks breeding there too!
Thanks,
Nige

| | | Re: Petition against school building in park Hi Nige, signed. It annoys me that really there is no such thing as "greenbelt land" it is only spared untill they want to build on it.
Kids need open space & playing fields as much as they need school. I`m sure if the council look hard enough they can find a brown field site to use, the problem being i think that this will be more expensive

| | | Re: Petition against school building in park I assume they already know, but have you informed or do you know of, the opinion of the local RSPB group, or Wildlife Trust? If Skylarks breed there it could be a point to play on.
Has an ecological survey been commissioned? |

| | | Re: Petition against school building in park To be honest Jason, I have no idea at the moment, I think not. I've only just found out about it. I'll have a look around though.
Thanks,

| | | Re: Petition against school building in park This is just around the corner from where I live, but I wasnt aware of this new school being built there. Ive signed the petition too.
I've been going to Lake Farm CP for about 10 years. I've seen Stonechats, Reed Buntings, Green Woodpeckers, GS Woodpeckers, RN Parakeets and several years ago saw my first Hawfinch there. The site is also populated by a pair of Kestrels.
As far as I know its actually owned by Hillingdon Council, along with Minet CP the other side of Hayes. |

| | | Re: Petition against school building in park I have signed the petition too even though I don't know where it is, we must stop folk building on greenbelt land or anything that holds some wildlife, our Island is going to be a concrete jungle soon and where will be be then, will WAB have a section for "best concrete photo". | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
