Without having read up on it, I would point out that any development nowadays needs an appropriate Ecological Impact Assessment carried out as a precursor to any development works. As nice as many of the species listed are, the site would need any specially protected species present to affect any plans and then would probably only mean mitigation measures for those species. In the case of birds that would mean breeding species.

In answer to Pam's comments Green Belt is not really a conservation designation, but a planning guideline for the council's planning department.

Wish I was there today to join the protest, but sadly have to pay my mortgage so sitting at work keeping my fingers crossed the protest has some impact

Well it was a pretty good turnout, despite the lack of promotion for it And a whole load more people were able to sign the petition when we got into town.
