Just a short article about a conservation scheme offered to farmers to support wildlife - BBC News - Farmers improve habitat for endangered barn owl

It's refreshing to see, and I know farmers and British wildlife have a bit of a 'mixed' relationship, but more of this would be very welcome

The report didn't mention who was paying the premium received for taking part in the scheme - presumably the government?

Somehow I doubt that the farmers would be so keen to get involved if it meant providing support for larger BOP...

Nationally, the Barn Owl has been voted Britain's best loved bird.
In Suffolk, it has been a huge success story, mainly because of most farmers being very keen to be involved in the project, but unfortunately, the 6 Key farmland birds (used for monitoring) are still in decline with intensification still the main threat.

We still have to persuade more farmers to take up Higher Level Stewardship.
