| | | Move to put our clocks forward an hour in winter Tory MP Rebecca Harris is pushing a private member's bill to have our winter hours set at GMT+1 (Central European Time) pending research. If it receives the backing of the Scottish, Welsh and NI governments we could be heading for British Summer Time in Winter. She obviously has too much time on her hands and nothing better to do.
Cheers,
Adam |

| | | Re: Move to put our clocks forward an hour in winter Excellent idea. Reduces deaths on the roads, reduces energy consumption, it lets those of us who are keen gardeners / have allotments more time to cultivate our gardens in the evening after work in the light, and those who want to take exercise in the evening after work or children play outside after school can do so in the light. But indoor couch potatoes probably aren't bothered either way ...
There was GMT+1 all year round during World War 2 for very good reasons, certainly not on the whim of stupid people - reduced energy use, greater productivity, dig for victory etc.
And I do remember the 1968-71 experiment. And I do remember that most people we knew were very disappointed and annoyed when it reverted to GMT. |

Cheers,
Adam | Yes, she no doubt hatched it up in the winter when she couldn't do what she wanted to do because it was dark outside ... |

| | | Re: Move to put our clocks forward an hour in winter The discussion has been had on WAB before:- BST - Environmental Benefits
I'm still fully in favour.
The social, economical, and environmental benefits of such a move would most definitely be to the advantage of the business community, and to by far the vast majority of Britain's population.
Regards,
Mike. |

Mike. | I'm all in favour too. I just wish they'd either do it or draw a line under it

| | | Re: Move to put our clocks forward an hour in winter I think the problem is, it takes more than six months to talk about it, and by then, you are back with your light evenings...
