| | | Tanker misses North Sea gas platform A 3,000-tonne cargo ship adrift in the North Sea avoided hitting a gas platform after the ship's crew managed to temporarily repair the engines.
The Vindo, a 300ft-long vessel registered in Antigua, narrowly missed the Murdoch gas platform 75 miles off the Lincolnshire coast, but was on course to collide with a second rig after the ship's engine failed again.
RAF helicopters evacuated all 30 crew on the Murdoch platform. It was unclear whether the second rig was still in use, but no one was aboard.
The cargo ship lost its power and high winds were pushing it towards the Murdoch platform. It narrowly missed the structure after the engines had been briefly restarted.
Its engines failed again and it was heading for the other rig, a Tug from Hull was sent to the scene and managed to get a tow on the ship.
The Vindo was being brought back here to Hull for repairs.
In September last year, Dover coastguard reported a collision between the Vindo and another cargo vessel, which damaged both ships but caused no injuries.
This ship was loaded to the hilt with fertilizer, if it had hit the gas rigs and sunk; god only knows what a disaster this would have been.
The North Sea would have been poisoned and the marine wildlife would have been devastated, beyond repair.
This ship is jinxed and should be scrapped, before it actually causes a massive disaster.

| | | Re: Tanker misses North Sea gas platform I have actually spoken to a friend who works for MCA and he informs me it was 550 metres, that is seriously close and a lot closer than we have been led to believe.
A second tug has had to go out and assist the other tug to get it into and up the river Humber.
It is due into Hull this evening.
One thing I would like to add is how brave the crew were, staying on board to try and get it restarted again.
Or how foolish they may have been, if at the last moment the RAF were called out again to lift them off.
Maybe salvage rights played a part in the minds of the crew? Who knows.
Loose your ship? Loose your job?
Any way thanks to the RAF Brave helicopter crew, the people were safely taken off the rig and to safety.
Some serious questions should be asked now of the company who own this floating disaster, as to why they set sail in such horrible conditions.
When most ferry companies and other large boat operators, kept their boats in port all around the country.
Regards
