| | | re: is spring coming? Just looked - my snowdrops are coming up too. The blackbirds are squabbling already, having quite a battle.

| | | re: is spring coming? Nothing looking remotely like spring in these parts, very depressing.
Though we did have a large flock of about 500 Chaffinces going through the farm today, great, noisy sight. They were probably looking for warmer climes.

| | | re: is spring coming? I had a quick scout around the front garden today and there really is very little showing; no green tips of bulbs pushing through, nothing much in flower apart from a very tatty primrose and a wallflower bowles mauve which has two flowers on it. The garden is way behind what it is usually at this time of year. |

| | | Re: is spring coming? I planted some large Acorn seeds into pots and put them in the greenhouse today, in anticipation that spring is coming. |

| | | Re: is spring coming? Did you collect them recently, Littlesparrow? They need a good frosting, which any acorn which has been outside over this winter will definitely have had, before they'll germinate.
We had a bumper crop of acorns last autumn and after the bitter weather I expect my lawn will be full of little oaks in summer. |

| | | Re: is spring coming? Yes they have been frosted, collected just after Xmas, they are much larger than normal ones, but I haven't found out exactly what type of oak it will become, the adult tree wasn't very big. |
