| | | Re: fireworks Don't care about that. What I care about is the din. You can't hear yourself think round these parts when 'it all starts'.
Ban the lot of them and may the next person who sets one off, involuntarily smack themselves hard on the head several times for no apparent reason.
Yeah, I luvs the fireworks, as you know.

| | | Re: fireworks Can't quite get with burning an effigy of a human being on a bonfire, gives a very barbaric message. Fireworks should be kept for public displays on special occasions. All bonfires should be lit before unsuspecting wildlife hibernate in the piles of debris. An Autumn revel fire would be better with all the family and friends Pruning, shifting and burning it before any creatures are lured to their death. Cooking jacket spuds and bangers, the sausage variety in the bonfire, not a guy. Fireworks for national celebrations and if we have to celebrate the death of Guy Faukes, the chinese lantern would be kinder to animals |

| | | Re: fireworks I'm not a fan of bonfire night either, weird tradition. Although it might be interesting to be more creative with the 'Guy'. It doesn't even have to be a person. Could be symbolic in some way.
God I sound like such a killjoy. Ha, ha. OK, we'll keep the bonfires. But the fireworks. Do they serve any purpose other than to annoy the heck out of your neighbours?

| | | Re: fireworks Fireworks keep a few people in work here in Norfolk. A local man is a pyrotechnic expert and builds and designs the big displays by Royal Appointment. He is a nice man and does not deserve to loose his business. Fireworks have their place, but not in the hands of the general public and the louts that put a lit firework in my cousin's pocket. Fortunately she did not loose all of her leg. We have all heard the terrible reports of animals being mutilated and terrified by fireworks. The general public can't have weapons without licence, but we allow them to buy potentially lethal weapons from the supermarket to use as they want. |

| | | Re: fireworks I'm not totally against fireworks but never really 'got' them, hubbie loves 'em but why do they have to be so bloomin noisy .
Having seen some of them that people can buy, I find it amazing that they are allowed to be sold to the general public without some sort of license, they are just fancy coloured bombs in the wrong hands.

| | | Re: fireworks I do agree Brenda.
I've no problem with organized displays and each New Year we have a few days in Whitby and at midnight we walk around the harbour watching the display
Organized displays are safer, better and you know when they are occuring so if you have pets then you can prepare yourself in advance in stead of the month long barrage that occurs these days (how do people and kids afford them - have you seen the prices of some of them ).
shenk1 (nearest I can get to a firework smilie )

Where are the Health and Safety laws when you need them?
I too think that, if we must have them, they should only be sold to organised groups, not on sale to the general public. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
