| | | Autumn changes Welcome to the signs of autumn thread, because it's not winter yet! So far in East London I've seen loads of craneflies, and the leaves on the trees are just starting to turn. I'm seeing increasing numbers falling. Also, there's that weird chill in the air that's hard to describe, it's not just cold, it's cold and fresh-feeling. |

| | | Re: Autumn changes We ate a hazelnut from our tree yesterday (divided it into two). There would have been more, but the squirrel got there first.
The catkins are very visible.....is it spring soon........I'm not keen on the bit in between?

| | | Re: Autumn changes Yeah, I don't like the darker part of the year either, but this year I am going to try to appreciate the good parts. Nights are drawing in, for example, which usually makes me unhappy -but the moon looks so bright and clear earlier in the evening now.
Also, the rosehips and hawthorn haws are absolutely stunning right now. Hawthorns in berry are as beautiful as roses in full bloom, in my opinion.
The local plant market is full of brightly coloured ornamental cabbages and kales that look like autumn flowers. |

| | | Re: Autumn changes I've bought some torch batteries for night time dog walking.
Horse chestnut tree leaves are well on in changing colour & dropping off. My bamboo plant is also shedding quite a bit.
Heating is now on daily timer rather than manual boost every now & then.
Dog moulting like hell
Fish are becoming more sluggish & pond plants dying back

| | | Re: Autumn changes I am loving the colour changes on the trees!
Shame about the Horse Chestnuts in my area. They have all but lost they're leaves due to the leaf Minor Moth. They started turning very early this year.
I refuse to buy christmas stuff just yet. Too early. Anything resembling choccies or biscuits will just get eaten.

All the children are coming in to school with pockets full of conkers! Now that's what I call autumn...
