| | | Re: Pick your own I must admit, I soon gave up favour of a PYO which just did strawberries and rasberries for a huge place I found that was further away but also did cherries, tayberries, gooseberries, blueberries, courgettes, cauliflowers, potatoes everything really and I used to enjoy going there on a nice Sunday and the picking was as enjoyable as the cooking/ eating later on really.
If I wanted a punnet of strawberries I went to the shops, if I wanted a lovely day picking fruit and veg to make things with, I went to the PYO.
I think PYO growing around farm shops do quite well.
Oooh that's made me think I'll see if I can find something similar closer to where I live now!

We have started a Facebook group and public Google map to promote the use of "Pick From The Park" and, after a great tweet by the National Trust, things are really starting to gain a head of steam.
Why not head over to the Facebook Group we have created and take a look. Pick From The Park | Facebook

| | | Re: Pick your own So, how's the fruit progressing this year?
Gooseberries in my garden coming on nicely but I'm looking forward to supplementing the crop from the local PYO - it isn't showing any activity on the web yet: just hope it hasn't gone out of business. |

| | | Re: Pick your own Raspberries are doing well and providing one of our 5 portions a day.
Redcurrants are coming along.
Strawberries are over. Will have to rethink these, although it is my first year.
Bumper crops of apples, figs and blackberries look likely. My blueberry is also looking good.
But my Bramley didn't flower.
So it's swings and roundabouts. And there are far too many roundabouts between here and my PYO for it to be a useful alternative. |

| | | Re: Pick your own local PYO's are more expensive than the £1 or less punnet of UK fruit from this years bumper crop, so its not a great day out any more if it costs you more money and takes up time in a busy week.
a lot shut down due to people greed, turning up with a pot of cream/sugar having a family feast and then taking only one punnet in.
We used to have a local place where if you picked a certain number of punnet for the farm to sell your picking was free as wages in kind,
