| | | Confessions of an Eco-Shopper 'Confessions of an Eco-Shopper' is a book by Kate Lock about her mission to 'go green'. I got a copy from the local library and have put a five-star review on Amazon - it is excellent. Kate sets out the book into different product areas and looks at the challenges associated with each one in sourcing and using green options. Some challenges she took herself, for others she spread her research net more widely.
Kate's investigations were very well researched and are well-referenced but the book is also witty and enormously readable. It's absolutely packed with information but also opinion which is useful -based on the reviews of Fairtrade coffees I changed my brand to Clipper Organic and it's definitely an improvement. Not as nice as the non-Fairtrade Carte Noir but nearly there! Kate isn't afraid to say when things don't work - soap nuts make useless shampoo, apparently, but clean clothes well.
This book is definitely worth buying or, as I did, tracking down at your local library. Having just wasted money on India Knight's The Thrift Book (wealthy author patronises the rest of us) I wish I'd bought this instead. |

| | | Re: Confessions of an Eco-Shopper Thanks for the post And, will bear it mind should I ever happen upon it! I ditched all my smellies when I tried out organic products instead of... Lavera shaving cream and tooth paste are firm favourites, green people deodorants are good but would like to try others and yet still to find an aftershave that I really like! |

I switched to it earlier this year from "normal" toothpastes and it completely cured the daily nausea I've suffered from for as long as I can remember.
I also started using Lavera moisturiser and after two weeks use I finally got rid of a small patch of eczema from my right eyebrow that had remained stubbornly in place for over 4 years despite various prescriptions from my GP.
I started using the Pitrock push-up deodorant, I've had problems in the past with "normal" ones, from itching to peeling skin, but no problems with the Pitrock. An added benefit is no more discoloured, hard fabric on T-shirt and shirt underarms, I'd really recommend it.
Back on track, the book sounds really interesting, I'll try and get a copy at my library. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
