| | | Solar Powered Blue Car Hitting the Streets in 2010 What do you think of the new solar-powered electric vehicles?
Starting this coming spring, a slick new solar-powered electric vehicle will be hitting the streets of Europe. Italian car designer Pininfarina and French battery manufacturer Bolloré have officially announced that the five door Blue Car hatchback is now ready for production. A fully-electric vehicle with solar panels by 2010? Count us in! Solar Powered Blue Car Hitting the Streets in 2010 |

| | | Re: Solar Powered Blue Car Hitting the Streets in 2010 Looks to me as though the solar is just a top up and you'll still need to charge it. Unless there are on street charging points it puts it out of the running for Joe Blogs in his terraced house with on street parking.
I'm also dubious about the environmental credentials of these so called "zero emission" vehicles. Unless the electricity is from renewable sources you will be polluting someone else's backyard whilst keeping yours clean. Factor in the transmission losses in the electricity distribution system and you could find the cars carbon footprint is quite high. |

| | | Re: Solar Powered Blue Car Hitting the Streets in 2010 I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, too slow, too expensive and a range of only 175 miles then an overnight stay in a hotel while it charges. As for using solar panels on a car in Scotland, about as useful as Douglas Bader's trainers.
