| | Re: Low flying helicopters. Advice well taken - taint called Tanglefoot fer nuthin I guess!!
I have no doubt whatsoever that over my 7 night sojourn I shall be giving all the local brews the hammering they deserve - well maybe not exactly a hammering - more of a glugging
However - back to nature - what and where are the best sighting spots for bird varieties - shore and inland - bearing in mind - I aint got no time for hoards of tourists - bit of a miserable sod really, not really - only when I'm out spotting.
I already have several sights logged for plane spotting - thank you (devils advocate)
Advice gratefully recieved |

| | | Re: Low flying helicopters. I have today had a nice email from Mr Oliver Letwin, our local MP,with a copy of a letter sent to the Secretary for Defence.
Was pleased at the quick responce from him at this busy time for MPs!!
As he states often when an MP complains about this, they adjust their flight paths, that means someone else will then have to put up with it!
Oh well...we will see, will keep you all posted!

| | | Re: Low flying helicopters. We get quite a lot of helicopters around here .. I've always assumed they are police helicopters (what with the high crime rate around here an'all ) .. they just seem to fly round and round, there was one the other night (at around midnight that must have been circling for a good couple of hours altogether .. drove me nuts trying to get to sleep!) Either that or air ambulances?
Also get those hercules come past here from your direction, Kayleigh ... and the odd chinook every now and then!

| | Low flying helicopters - Luton area I live 3 miles south of Luton airport, and ****** NATS has routed helicopters under the passenger jets from Luton. Commercial helis are allowed to fly down to 500 feet from you, which is one of the crazier CAA Regulations. (moan at the Civil Aviation Authority, Kingsway, London). So we get the little Robinson R22 perishers doing a circuit over us, and of course we have the delight of the Herts Police Heli at 2 am. Herts Police are addicted to Heli use - they even sent one out to `help' evict some Travellers - what were they expecting - that the Travellers had SAM missles ?? One lady even asked the local paper if they would send out the Police Heli if her cat got lost. Also, to the east of Luton (Great Offley) we have the Red Kites soaring at over 500 feet - one of these days the Police Heli is going to `collect' one. So where are the worst places for Military nuisance - Stour Valley, Ipswich, around Dorset in general etc ?? There is also a Helicopter Training school about 4 miles north of Shrewsbury which is a real pain. (My wife reckons I have been micro-chipped to attract Helis ) The trouble is the Military spread themselves over the UK when the Cold War and Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) was on in the 50's, and have not quite yet moved on .... oh that they would move to just one area so the rest of us could avoid them.

We too have had the police helicopter overhead at 2am but I'd rather have that than some scrote nick my car.
I read a great story over on an airgun forum a while back. Someone was (legitimately) shooting an air gun in a field next to Coventry airport. Spotted by some passerby who mistook the airbottle underneath the barrel for a surface to air missile they rang the police who despatched the...wait for it...helicopter.

It's permanent - no ifs or buts. You may not notice the damage for a long time, but it will catch up with you. It did with me - I suffer from tinnitus as a consequence.
