| | | Water Meters The Environment Ministry wants everyone to have a water meter fitted, so far the uptake has not been overwhelming as it was expensive to the householder

| | | Re: Water Meters I've had my water meter now for 9 years and never looked back. I do live alone and don't use a lot of water. I can understand people who have gardens or families, who might use a large amount of water.

| | | Re: Water Meters We are considering a water metre. Our current bill stands at 411 pounds per year and there are only two of us here.
Is that normal? |

Is that normal? | The number of people in the house doesn't matter, I think the water rates are based on the house like the council tax.
And ours are £451 for the year and we are only down the M18 from Doncaster so I guess you are not doing that bad |

| | | Re: Water Meters We've had a water meter for 4 years now and it has saved us at least £120 per year. There are only two of us (and the dog!), we don't have baths (we don't even have a bath in the house), but also, we don't stint on what we use for other purposes...eg car washing, watering, the alebit small, garden (we do have a water butt). The washing machine is run when necessary, as is the dishwasher.
There was no charge for the fitting of the meter (we come under Wessex Water) and we had the option of having it taken away if it was not to our benefit within the first year. The family across the road have three young girls and they are finding it is saving them money too.
I've yet to hear of anyone living on their own or just two in the household for whom there has not been a saving. |

| | | Re: Water Meters My water bill went down from £23 to £9 a month, since my meter was fitted. Although it is slightly gone up to £14 a month, been having a bath more often (don't say I'm smelly, I do have a shower as well )

| | | Re: Water Meters I live on my own and I have been thinking of getting a water meter as well but I have a large garden that's needs a lot of watering, a 10' x 7' by 4' deep pond plus a very large Aquarium (260 litres).
The pond needs topping up regularly through the summer months through evaporation and the Aquarium needs a good water change every three weeks so I'm not sure just how much I would save, if anything.
My new water bill is £330 so do I take the chance and take a water meter or leave things as they are. Down here once the water meter is fitted it can't be taken out so if I make the decision to take on a water meter it becomes a permanent decision.

| | | Re: Water Meters Have a look at USwitch-Water.
Enter all the relevant numbers and see if swaping to a meter will be cost saving for you. |

| | | Re: Water Meters I feel agrieved at those who use water to water their lawns and gardens and don't pay more than someone like myself who never waters the garden - plants get used to the amount of water available and adjust. It is long overdue for the compulsory use of water meters. |

| | | Re: Water Meters What winds me up is not being able to water my garden, i'm on a meter but still they can put in place a hosepipe ban, while others waste far more inside thier houses, ( leaving taps running etc.) if i pay for what i use i should be able to use what i want. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
