| | | Conifer Hedge Planting? I went to some local farmland today and there was this big electric fence across the field. Inside were small Leylandii conifers. Isn't it a bad idea to introduce Leylandii conifers onto farmland? |

| | | Re: Conifer Hedge Planting? I don't have a clue KT but I think they would make an excellent windbreak. I have no doubt the farmer knows what he is doing as they never spend money without good reason

It would be a badly advised idea to plant Leylandii in the countryside, I don't have the confidence to say all farmers know what they're doing, especially when it comes to wildlife and conservation matters.
There are better trees for windbreaks. |

| | | Re: Conifer Hedge Planting? Leylandi make good wind breaks, and in my garden sparrows and blackbirds nest in them +++. Nothing grows under them for a couple of feet though. If they are pruned regularly they can be kept in control, but often die back t the bottom, but not as often as other conifers do.
I wish I had not put them in my garden, but they did grow fairly quickly and they do give privacy.
IIRC they are all sterile and propogated by non-sexual means. |
