My worry is about the car headlights being too bright,as said in the interview that BMW & Audi are already using them.I often get blinded by them as we often have to drive at night, and constanly watch out for badgers & the like, but it is hard when you have someone coming the other way with bright headlights & often using their 'driving' lights when good weather to see if any animals...and also walkers ..are on the side of the roads.there must be some sort of law restricting the level of light...if not they will just get brighter and cause more people to have accidents or hit animals !Or am I just being 'an old fart'!!??I am only just 50 !!

| | | Re: bright light... yes I've noticed this, it is a if they are on full beam, perhaps they will find a way to reduce the brightness with headlights a coating on the lamp cover for instance but as regards energy reduction and help for poor sighted people a good thing perhaps oh and no mercury

| | | Re: bright light... I agree that they have to find an alternative to the poor lighting & slowness of the 'new style' ones!
At home I like 'coloured'bulbs when not working, bet they don't produce any of those for years...just fed up with being dictated to about how we have to live!!!

| | | Re: bright light... I have extra light sensitive eyes, so wear sunglasses for most of the year round. And night driving is difficult for me due to being dazzled by oncoming headlights....but those extra bright ones actually hurt the back of my eyes! I'd say it's downright dangerous as I truly cannot see afterwards, due to the glare of them
On the subject of "slow" energy bulbs, I was chuckling to myself the other day when the split second delay annoyed me, the landing light always catches me out, I've already dashed halfway up the stairs before it comes on and for a millisecond there it makes me think I'm going to be upstairs in the dark! We are talking split seconds here, so it's no big deal....how spoilt we are! A visitor to our bathroom is not so keen on them though, he needs to go little and often and he complains that the light only comes on brightly enough by the time he's due to leave the room!

D. | LOL Dutchess I was thinking that the other day, how spoilt we are but it is just a second delay with these lights. We just can't be patient can we?
I bought a bulb that doesn't have any delay, looks like an ordinary light bulb but a bit bigger, I think it was from Focus but not really sure. I could do with getting plenty more for the rest of the house. I will look around and let you know. Meanwhile if anyone else has bought these I would be grateful to know where from |

| | | Re: bright light... The free British gas energy bulbs that we got sent through the post are excellent. I put them in thinking that they would be dim and yellow, but they mimic a 60 watt bulb with only 11 watts. They're excellent! I think they're made by Phillips, so try them if you can |

| | | Re: bright light... Must admit I've used low-energy bulbs (and nothing else) for years now and have never had any problems with warm-up speed or brightness. I have been careful about getting good light reflecting lamp shades and using small table lamps in places where you need slightly extra light to read by. I'm sure the new LED lamps will evolve into a useful set of low energy alternatives too.

| | | Re: bright light... I find it strange that people complain about the "soft start" of energy efficient light bulbs. I find them comfortable, especially first thing in the morning, since they don't immediately glare at my eyes like the old incandescent ones did and within a minute or two, they are just as bright. |
