| | | Re: hi now protect the world The link was from a blocked website so it's automatically converted to xexexexe and the link dies.
We're currently trialing some software that collects frequently occuring links in posts and automatically blacklists the site, before referring it to an anti-spam network.
You tend to expect this sort of thing from a third world website selling mobile phones, so it's a shame that we have to do it to a UK environment website...although it looks like they're using cheap labour in India to do the dirty work.
It's the complete get-rich-quick mentality of people who set up a site and then want free advertising. Ultimately, the plan usually backfires as the anti-spam networks catch up with them, and the bad PR is shown to their advertisers, who can also end up blacklisted.
I remember one of the big insect forums a couple years ago that did the same thing and ended up closing down. It was a great site as well, but it looks like they spammed one too many people in the end.
