This web site says that Americans eat 3lbs per head in a year. That comes to quite a lot of cans. The woman in the article eat a can a day and ended up with 10 times the safe limit of mercury in her blood.

Perhaps shovelling mercury into USAmerican school children explains something about their intelligence. 
Interestingly, since this thread started I've been unable to buy any raw tuna from Waitrose or Sainsburys where they normally stock line-caught fish.  |
