The last three years I volunteered for BBOWT with their water vole recovery project and at their Chimney Meadows reserve. It's such good therapy to be out of the office and doing some good for the local wildlife, although work is getting more and more in the way. At the height of the water vole surveying season I was out nearly every other day in all weathers. For me it’s nice to be able to meet other people with the same interest, who haven’t got a clue about my work and to be honest don’t care. It’s all about joining in and helping out.
Having moved house in the summer I’ve now joined the Hampshire Wildlife Trust and hope to get fully involved with work on their near by reserves and with any surveys they have.

I work for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust as a volunteer water vole surveyor, it's brilliant and although most of the surveys are done during the main breeding season I monitor activity all year. Nothing better!

I also work as a Geology Trail Leader taking shcool parties round an old limstone quarry and talking about how fossils etc tell us what the environemt was like. Great fun especially making plaster cast fossils!

I used to do voluntary work at Penclacwydd WWT, usually one sunday a month as it's a fair drive and I worked full time. These days my work can go on well into the evening and the occasional weekend so, sadly, I don't have time to do any voluntary work anywhere. I try and feed birds, provide good habitat and educate others on a daily basis instead. One day, when retirement looms ..........

I do volunteer work for the Forestry Commission in the New Forest. Conservation tasks occur during the winter months - ride edge clearance, Gorse clearance & Pine Pulls on the heathlands, opening up Marl Pits etc & there's always litter picks organised in the spring.
The rest of the year its helping with events that are on, leading guided walks, going out on patrol on foot or in a Ranger van & even Christmas Tree sales.

I help out the Secret World Wildlife Rescue with pictures, I also take pictures for them. I supply a huge amount of the pictures used by the Somerset Wildlife Trust, and they also run competitons to spend a day photographing with me also all for free of course.

I also work for the Environment Agency full time so I suppose that counts in a way.
