| | | Looking for new gravel pit plans I have been told that my local Pine woodland of some 200acres is to be turned into gravel pits. I have contacted my Norfolk planning offcie whcih is Norfolk County Council but they do not know of such plans. are there any sites where I could find info on this please. I have googled the forest but nothing re gravel pits has come up.
Might be a rumour I suppose.

It is rich in Reptiles and Amphibians this is what I am concerned about.
It is relict sandling heath which was planted with Pine trees for felling and selling also the local reed cutter rents the reedbeds.
Thanks

| | | Re: Looking for new gravel pit plans From this article it doesn't look as if any decission has been made. A county council spokesman said: “It is very early days. Nothing has been checked out or put forward as a suggested option. It is just a case of: 'These are the expressions of interest that we have had: what does everybody think about them?'” http://www.lowestoftjournal.co.uk/co...A12%3A49%3A420
The documents can be viewed on the county council website at Norfolk County Council - Minerals and Waste in Norfolk |

| | Re: Looking for new gravel pit plans Hi
You are right there is a proposal to make the forest into a Gravel pit it is classified at "Great yarmouth min 38" with Norfolk County Council.
Furthermore it appears that there has been some exploratory work done Tuesday May 13th as there was a JCB in there digging deep holes all over = if you look you will see where they have filled back in and the JCB tracks.
It would be a shame to lose this recreational and educational facility not to mention the lost nature. The Parish Council appear uninterested in the procedure so not sure whose side they are batting for.
hope you are still looking at this forum as I have only just found it

Gravel pits usually are the result of the gravel being used for new roads. |

| | | Re: Looking for new gravel pit plans I really wouldn't worry, you will be consulted after the decision has been made. That gives the time to ignore your views in depth. |

| | | Re: Looking for new gravel pit plans I have found a BAP species (Tiger Beetle) and am keepig an eye of the Herptefauna there. It is hard recording as much as I can but regular visits keeping turning up new species. It could turn out to be a great wildlife site if and when the pits are dug but in the meantime I will make species lists as evidnec should there be a public enquiry, I would like to thank everyone who has helped reserch this proposal and the help and advice I have been given.

I am sure somebody else has mentioned this, but I do hope that your records are going to the local records centre. That is the most reliable way to ensure your endeavours are being considered. |

| | | Re: Looking for new gravel pit plans Yes they are going to the Suffolk Biological Records Centre and to the Monks Wood place. I am preparing a paper on the Ecological impact of the site too.
Thanks for the advice. |
