Don't fishies do the naughty bit in the water in hot countries then? I mean,it can be a bit off-putting to know that a bream or roach has just lost its virginity in your tea-pot-water, but a 600lb Nile Perch doing ditto would be a different kettle of fish.........so to speak.

Re: Bottled water.

has anyone else read the research about horone levels in the tap water recently - i don't like to buy bottled water (and usually buy fruit juice etc if run out of tap) but i'm not sure that in some circumstances its a lot healthier to buy bottled than drink the tap, especially with the levels of oestrogens in tap water continuing to rise...

Re: Bottled water.

Our tap water tastes vile and I'm sure it was responsible for my sons upset tum. When he was a toddler my son had a constant stomach upset, the gp called it toddler tummy and said there was nothing to do but wait for it to pass. This went on for months until I went back to boiling the water I used for him and his stomach upsets stopped. After that I bought a water filter and you can really taste the difference in the water.

Re: Bottled water.

Let's not forget that probably _the_ greatest achievement in this country in the last 200 years, has been the supply of clean water to most households.

Bottled water and filters are a current fad. With respect to the use of bottled water, do the users know that bisphenol is used in the production of the plastics used for the bottles? It's use in plastics is ubiquitous - it'll also be a constituent of the filter cartridge and body of a water filter.

Re: Bottled water.

Yes, and that's not all! There's a nicely reasoned examination at Bottled water flies off the shelves, but smart money is on filter systems | By P.W. McRandle, for the Green Guide | Grist | Earthly Possessions | 04 May 2004 - along with some horror stories.

Smething I read a while back but can't find a reference to at the moment is that water in plastic bottles absorbs selenium from the plastic- no problem over the short term but could be nasty for anyone laying down a stock of water - or foodstuffs - in plastic.

We used to live in Helmshore, the river at the back of the house was purple and the tap water was badly contaminated with rust (a pint bottle had a 1" sediment), so I think it varies. It was quite a few years ago.

We used to dream about having rust in our water!

I don't understand that, Jim: it's the very same size font (round about Arial 10) which I use for letters and that is used on this very page that I'm writing now!

Yes, it's OK with Opera which I'm using at work. Must be an issue with the Firefox I'm using at home. I'll check again.

Re: Bottled water.

... and let's not forget lead in tapwater. This is still a sizeable problem in the north and west of the countries where tap-water is acidic:
DWI - Information Leaflets - Lead in Drinking Water

The water companies are gradually replacing lead supply pipes (with plastic ones ... ) but a lot of older houses still have lead pipes, at least in part ....

Re: Bottled water.

All I can say is there must be something drastically wrong with the tap water in my part of the world if they have to add bleach twice a week. The smell as it comes out of the tap is awful. I once left a screw top bottle of the stuff out in the garden, after a few days it turned green.
I now use bought bottled water for drinking and cooking but wouldn't you know it, researchers are warning of the chemical interaction between warmth and sunlight on the plastic of the bottles.
You just can't win!

If algae grow in it after a few days, the water can't have much in it in the way of nasty chemicals!

Re: Bottled water.

Hi Friend's
I also struggled with deciding if it was serious, but I noticed that when you click on the different flavours of water at the bottom of the page, they all come up with the same flavour ("beef flavoured gutter water"), so came to the conclusion that it was a spoof.
