My mum reckons she can taste the difference but I can't, although volvic does have a very distinguished taste |

| | | Re: Bottled water. The only time I buy bottled water is when I am at my house in Spain as the tap water is dodgy. The price of bottled water in inland Spain is a fraction of the cost you pay at home. I would never buy bottled water in the U.K. and I really resent the number of people who carelessly throw the empty ones away, and in my neck of the woods includes a lot of nature lovers and ramblers who should know better.

I used to do that when I was younger until I had a drink out of a stream one day and discovered upstream, a dead sheep lying in the water. Carry around some sterilizing tablets just to be safe.

Only in America would someone market flavoured water for dogs... but I guess if the punters are daft enough to buy it then good luck to them
After all most of them are barking mad (pun very much intended )

After all most of them are barking mad (pun very much intended ) | I couldn't make my mind up if this was serious or not. We are getting to the situation where we have no idea what a lot of American Buffalo Dust means. If it means anything.
I have relatives who live in normal bits of America, and they are just about as confused. |

| | | Re: Bottled water. I also struggled with deciding if it was serious, but I noticed that when you click on the different flavours of water at the bottom of the page, they all come up with the same flavour ("beef flavoured gutter water"), so came to the conclusion that it was a spoof. Bet you that people tried to order it, though.... |

I think there is probably more impurities in bottled water because it is untreated. I get amazingly cold fresh water from my taps and that's more than what some people can say in this world. A friend told me that in Hawii the people are being deprived of water because someone is bottling it and sending it around the world, to places that have it on tap already I suppose, that is outragious I sometimes buy bottled water but I always re-fill them then recycle the bottle. I don't think enough people do this though. |

| | | Re: Bottled water. There are quite a few impurities in tap water although not usually toxic. I remember when I had tastebuds and could taste pure (distilled or deionised) water but not Midlands tap water. Presumably the water we're brought up on is our criterion for 'no taste'?
Some water tastes foul - I think of London's in particular - but isn't poisonous - one hopes - simply has lots of salts and chlorine. I would much rather drink Yorkshire water than waste money on buying water. Mineral waters aren't always what they seem. Was it Evian who had to recall a lot becase the bottling process had introduced toluene into the water? Coca Cola corporation had to withdraw Dasani mineral water when someone revealed (a) that it was tap water and (b) that it was polluted. Robin Cook famously said, "They found more dangerous chemicals in Coca-Cola's Dasani mineral water than they did in the whole of Iraq." They still sell it in other countries - presumably out of local tap sources .... Quote:

I filter all my drinking water, and will be even more rigorous when they start putting flouride in! |

I still think that your water is not as bad as that in London ... although, clearly nothing like as good as that in Yorkshire! Yet people used to come to Buxton and other Derbys places to 'take the waters' .... I suppose that our (British) water is now mixed from such a lot of sources that it has lost all individuality? |

The waters that people use to come to Buxton for is the natural spring water - which one can buy bottled at exorbitant prices, but obtain free from St Annes Well - which is a far cry from the stuff we get out of the taps.
I grew up in Sussex, where our water came straight off the chalk downs, it was delicious. The high calcium content probably explains my good teeth! But it use to furr the kettle something terrible. |

Where I used to live we would buy crates of (glass) bottled water or beer or whatever, then simply return the empties in the crate. Simple!
But I digress...

But I digress... | Gosh yes, I remember taking bottles back to the Offie to claim the deposits back! A treat for a young girl who needed the extra pocket money and Dad got rid of the empties! For a while there were bottles with "No deposit" printed on them...then it seems to have been taken for granted that everything would be disposable, glass or plastic.

It is so good for the system and I know I should drink it for the good of my health but it is so nasty to me. The only time I really relished drinking water was in Florida, where of course it was essential to keep hydrated so even then, it was my body that craved it rather than me....
Beer tastes so much better...

| | | Re: Bottled water. Water is essential to human health, drinking enough water to replace whatever is lost through bodily functions is important. Some bottled water also comes from municipal sources which is the tap water. Tap water is usually treated before it is bottled.
Water purified with products typically costs less than buying bottled water.
home filtration systems can improve the taste or appearance of tap water at a minimal cost. The consumers need to be careful about maintaining these filters. Without proper maintenance, it's possible bacteria or other contaminants can build up in the products.
If bottled water is consumed over a long period of time, some of the contaminants could cause cancer or other health problems. The drinking of distilled water may conceivably increase the risk of tooth decay.

| | | Re: Bottled water. When I first moved to Aviemore, the tap water tasted great and was usually really cool. Then almost overnight it changed, when chlorine began to be added. Sometimes when I run my tap, the kitchen smells like a swimming pool.
So now I filter all my water, and have a couple of two litre bottles in the fridge that are kept full. I have a one litre metal 'Sigg' container that I use when I am out walking, or when I am at work, it's better than a plastic bottle as it keeps the water cooler for longer.
I do replace the plastic bottles in my fridge occasionally, but the local council tip has recently started taking plastic bottles for recycling, so I don't feel too bad about using the plastic. |

Oddly, I've found bottled water tends to leave my mouth dry. Can't understand it. |
