oil and gas drilling affects polar bears

This story is one of the more depressing environmental ones of this week - George WB issuing licences to oil companies to drill for oil and gas in parts of Alaska which will potentially impact on polar bears.

Why DO you worry about this? Lessons have been learnt from (fill in your own list, start with Torrey Canyon), haven't they? Otherwise this would NOT be permitted, surely.

I doubt it will do much good for the wildlife in the Arctic region affected if the licences are issued judging by the article unless they are making it up!!
