| | | Re: Obesity I am now 43years old born in Cornwall, when i was a child my sister, brother and i helped my parents (was made to,without argueing) dig the garden and plant the seeds, help maintain the garden and then we all had fresh veg every year, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, lettuce you name it,it was what we all did then, i ended up having 6 Children (healthy eating) and i tried hard to carry this on i'm afraid it did not go according to plan, what with work and unwilling children to help in the garden, processed came into our lives,it was quicker and easier!! yes we did still eat some fresh food in fact Kelly my daughter was a veggie, now years on and my children have grown up i now live in Turkey and i am back to proper veggies and fresh food, i suppose at least i can remember how to prepare it!! they say you are what you eat...exercise must only benefit..everything in moderation |

| | | Re: Obesity There is absolutely nothing wrong in eating 'convenience foods', an absolute essential when working and bringing up a family, at least in my case it was.
I am now in my fifties, my children have grown into very healthy slim adults and they enjoy all the lovely foods that are available, but they don't pig out.
I am very proud at being a size 12 and weighing 8st 7oz, unlike some of my friends who pig out on rubbish fat, sugary foods and are very overweight to the extent it is damaging their health.
Ok I sound smug but if you overeat so much that your body can't cope with, then you will get fat and exercise really doesn't have anything to do with it, just eat less. |

| | | Re: Obesity I work in well known supermarket as a cleaner and you would not believe what people put in their trollies. A lot of it is frozen ready meals, bottles of pop, crisps etc. there is some fat people who come in and some people say well the person can't help it, it's a medical problem. Maybe so, but some of the stuff their have in the trolly!!!. Also the amount of alcohol people buy, is worrying, esq the young ones.
I'm one of them lucky people who eat and eat and never put the weight on and some people say how do you keep slim otherwise. The secret is I work as a cleaner and cleaning is a demanding job, try mopping a large supermarket (only mopping the edges) the machine cleans the large area of the floor I also cycle to work (4 miles each way) every day apart from my day off, then I cycle 50 miles. I enjoy a sausage bun every now and again which is ok and only drink 4 pints of lager in a week, sometimes none.
So next time you are shopping, take a look at some person trolly and you may have a shock |

People don't exercise/walk enough also | Hi I dispute that vegetarians are always slim , I know a few who most definitely are not The reason being mainly lack of exercise and too much alcohol, they also love their chocolate
I eat meat and am usually very slim but I've been noticing a tyre expanding around my waste since my housemates kitchen was being renovated. We only have microwave at oresent and no space to prepare food, I'm living pretty much on convenience food (fingers crossed kitchen will be fitted in one month!) and have certainly gained weight, I also do not feel so good mentally as well as healthily. I've started doing more exercise to counteract this.
However in the end even if your eating healthily, if you do little or no exercise you will gain weight. Exercise is key. |

I don't drink alcohol either, or if I do it's only one on the very rarest of occasions. I eat salads and pasta or baked potatoes with quorn meat. My weight seems to have levelled out now and I know there is more I can do to lose it again, but I feel comfortable now as I'm large-boned, and mildly disabled. I'm happy

| | | Re: Obesity Eating too much fat and sugar, in alcohol or whereever it is lurking and then a small amount of exercise will lead in time to a fatter body. Lots of people get put off exercise at school. Many girls, especially, never do any sports or exercise once they leave school. If you are not naturally good at it, it doesn't do much for you. PE and sports teachers obviously prefer those pupils who are good at it. If you are born with short legs it's harder to be a fast runner, or leap over vaults, and the ones who are the right shape get all the praise. The rest get fed up. Perhaps school sports should have some activities that everyone can be good at, like yoga, and encourage walking and cycling for the fun of it and the health benefits rather than for competition and try to put the habit of exercise into a daily routine. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
