| | | Crushing Untaxed Cars Unenvironmental Just seen the ad on TV reminding car owners that their vehicle can be crushed if its not taxed. Also, there was a local news article earlier about a farmer who was running a Quad track without planning permission, and the local authority have seized 9 quad bikes and crushed them today.
I know there must be punishments to enforce certain legislation, but it just strikes me what a waste of resources, first of all in crushing possibly perfectly good usable vehicles, and the original raw materials, pollutants and resources that went into manufacturing them in the first place.
Surely there must be a greener way? |

Always felt the same about the alcohol confiscated when people bring too much back in to the UK after a booze cruise. What a waste, ridiculous really.

| | | Re: Surely this isn't very green ...... I have just a feeling that many of the cars that are not taxed and get crushed in this way should not be on the road in the first place but I would agree that there may be a greener way to dismantle and recycle many of the components rather than just generating "compound cubes". However, the manpower cost would probably be too excessive to enable this to happen and let's not get into shipping them overseas for cheaper disposal.

| | | Re: Surely this isn't very green ...... One of the advantages of confiscating these mini-moto's is there is some positive PR for your local, under-fire Police force so they are usually quite keen to help out.
What they do around here for a first offence is issue a warning with regard to section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002. If you are plagued by these bikes then get a photo as this is good evidence for the police to issue a warning without them having to see the offence first. Around here, the second time a rider is reported on the same bike then they can seize the bike using the same powers. the owner then has to pay a £120 fee to have it returned |

The mini-motos around here are riden on public roads and will be untaxed, uninsured, the kids riding the bikes have no helmets and certainly no brains They try their best to go as fast down these roads as the noise polluters will allow. They then end up on a popular public footpath through the local wood where they continue to ride up and down.
To me there should be no warnings etc the police just take the noise polluters and crush them as that will be the only thing that may convince the 'brain dead' to stop |

| | Re: Surely this isn't very green ...... Remove the fuel tank and remove the engine and drive train. Take out the glass. Take the confiscated vehicles out to sea and use them to create artificial reefs, like they have done elsewhere. Aparently the vehicles remains don't last too long, so a reef can absorb an almost infinate amount of vehicles. Also, it would be funny. IMHO. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
