Anti-methane pills

Has anybody else read about the German professors of the Hohenheim university who have invented a pill for cows to stop them releasing methane gas? The pill, which is currently being tested and has the size of a fist, makes it possible for the methane gas to produce glucose instead of it just being released into the air.

I was just wondering what the general thoughts where on this devellopment, does anyone think it is something that will contribuate anything in the battle against greenhouse gasses or is it is a waste of time and money, which could be better spent?

It sounds like a very intersting idea but i think it would be better spent on having more renewable energy sources

So are they going to make it available free to all the farmers in the less developed world?

If we worry about flatulence from a few cattle, then perhaps they may also outlaw the sale of beans for human consumption? Or, more likely, the government could put a "green" tax on them !!

Well, I've read a couple of articles on it, but non of them even mentioned this issue or anything else about how it would be used after the testing. All that is said is that farmers should welcome it, as it will not only help save the planet but also increase the cows milk production.

actually silly as it sounds, cattle flatulence is a major concern vis a vis greenhouse gas - particularly in the indian subcontinent where there are on average 5 cows to every person , which is a heck of a lot of methane when you thunk about it

only if we breed cows to fart under water so that we can catch the bubbles as they come up - breeding cows to graze under water would also be handy if the govt continues to do 9/10 of nothing about global warming
