henrya | I think we are retailing them at about £58 at the moment but they usually go up in the winter. Last year they got to around £76 by the end of winter. I'm expecting a price increase any day now so I best be getting my own one I need before that! |

Of course a shower is more economical than a bath. If you want to prove it measure how long you usually shower for. Then, measure how much water this uses. Then measure how much water it uses to fill your bath to the usual level and temperature..
I tried this and found that my shower used less than half the water that my bath used.

Dave | Absolutely. I've put the plug in the bath; even after a long shower, the water is barely above my ankles.

For example the water/energy required to provide a 'proper bath' for a small child is very different for that required for a large adult - although a very large adult will require less than and largish adult. An average adult displaces in the region of 80 litres and an average UK bath holds in the region of 250 litres - even allowing that the bath is only 80% full (meaning that water covers the bather up to the shoulders) that still requires some 120 litres of water.
The cost differential (whether financial or ecological) has to take account of the cost of water as well as the energy cost of heating the water, this further accentuates the difference between lower and higher use. The usual claim from the Water companies is that the water charge to the customer equates to £1 per 1,000 litres (0.1 pence per litre), however when a per litre figure including disposal and maintenance costs are added, something closer to O.25 pence per litre is more representative of a comparison cost with energy use. For 80 litres of water that can mean the water costs are twice the energy charge for heating the water.
