| | | Stirling Engine .......... updated Many years ago I watched a little brass and glass reciprocating engine chuntering away in a shop window with no obvious fuel source. It was a model stirling engine Animated Engines, Two Cylinder Stirling
A modern version of this very efficient engine has been"evolved" to run a household generator http://www.whispergen.com/content/li..._UK_SYSTEM.pdf WhisperGen : E.ON

| | | Re: Stirling Engine .......... updated I'm getting this.."The web address you're looking for does not exist or has been moved." on the EON link and "Page cannot be found" on the pdf site, nightshade.
Weren't these engines mentioned a while back - by you? I remember checking the website of the maker of the table top engines. |

I did post about the Stirling but in this particular, Whisper Gen, application the Stirling powers an electric generator, very, very, economically. What is WhipserGen and How Does it Work?
This one works but the original .pdf documents don't for some reason, you could try cutting and pasting the other links or just Google it.
The Boiler heats domestic water and generates electricity!

Heat your Home while you Generate your own Electricity

The Boiler heats domestic water and generates electricity! | I managed to see the links soon after the first posting but later on they had been removed.
This by the way isn't new. Several similar installations were being considered around 20 years ago. It's the old story what should have been taken more seriously 20/30 years ago wasn't and now we are in 'catch up'.
The same could be said for the use of 'heat pumps' in domestic and commercial premises.
However there were several 'larger CHP schemes' initiated then (in sports centres, swimming pools etc) which proved to be very successful and have paid for themselves many times over.

| | | Re: Stirling Engine .......... updated V.odd. I thought the Stirling had Rolls Royce Merlin engines. 2700bhp would power a pretty big generator . . .

| | | Re: Stirling Engine .......... updated The Sterling had 4 Bristol Hercules II radial engines rated at 1,375 hp each. Interesting engine with 14 cylinders in two banks, each with a single side valve. |

| | | Re: Stirling Engine .......... updated I have a manual for servicing a radial aero engine, amazing, it could be done with a very limited toolkit.
A bloke I worked with some time ago had a stirling engine he had built, it was beautiful to watch it go. It was very small, but once you got it set up it worked very well, no real power output, it was more of a curiosity.
