| | | Missing Something? I am mystified as to why Germany have reversed their Nuclear energy policy. Am I missing something? They have based this policy shift on a natural event which has no bearing on the geology of their own country, nor have they seem to consider how to plug the energy gap. When was the last nuclear disaster in Germany? when was the last earthquake and tsunami in Germany?! Germany pledges nuclear shutdown by 2022 | World news | guardian.co.uk
Personally I am pro-nuclear. I don't think we have much choice, we've been too late in developing large scale renewables. What do other people think? |

| | | Re: Missing Something? It does seem very odd - there has to be some sort of hidden agenda and what happened in Japan provided an "excuse" for the action/reaction. Not a very good excuse at that, with Germany not being particularly prone to earthquakes and tsunamis! I wonder just how powerful and influential their coal industry is......??

| | | Re: Missing Something? It seems a very sudden step change in policy, soon after the Fukishima accident.
Also France have not had too many problems with their nuclear energy generation, have they? |

| | | Re: Missing Something? Germany has long relied on "green power" from Switzerland. Sadly, the Swiss are closing down their nuclear power stations. My opinions would get me barred from WAB.

| | | Re: Missing Something? The "green" party seems to carry a lot of weight in Germany, In fact it says in that article that the nuclear policy is widely disputed and it has helped to "boost" green party popularity. I wouldn't have thought they'd have been too happy about fossil fuel plants either?
