Multifuel burner glass cracked

We had just gone to bed last night when I heard a bang from downstairs. Being the brave one I went to investigate and saw that the multifuel stove glass have cracked vertically from top to bottom.

Is this common?

The fire was extremely hot with coal and a couple of bits of wood on for good measure but this is something we have done many times before.

I noticed a few weeks back that the glass had crazed a little in the bottom left and right hand corners but didn't worry too much about it at the time.

I've had it happen to me a couple of times and never tied it down to very hot stove, very quickly heated stove or anything else. I think it just happens sometimes, replace it with plenty of packing and not too tight a hand on the retaining screws and some sealants expand to give a not too tight pack.
