| | | Minute carbon footprint Despite driving 30,000 miles a year and flying to the US maybe 3 or 4 time a year (for work purposes) as well as maybe another 10,000 a year privately and the odd trip to Ibiza, Sharm etc my lasting carbon footprint will be a fraction of that of my peers.
Anyone wish to guess how this could be, and why I feel, despite protestations from some, I have no need to apologise for such consumption?

Discuss. | probably because like me you are not planning on having children ? - capping the expanding population being one of the keys to combatting global warming
either that or you have invested a proportion of your stunning weath into carbon offsetting projects , and/or installed significant on site generation into your new pad ?

| | | Re: Minute carbon footprint Exactly right, I don't intend to have kids. So why don't I get tax breaks for such lack of pollution? |

| | | Re: Minute carbon footprint probably because it would be too easy for people to take the money and then renege later, although i supose they could offer tax breaks for those who have been sterelised - but then the press would accuse them of eugenics.
more cynically it could also be because the global capitalist economic model requires a constantly expanding market - once population stops growing the market starts to shrink and you get a downward spiralling recession which would make the current credit crunch look small by comparison.-+++

Anyone have a spare brain cell? Can you see the logical inconsistencies in the following:
1 "Oh m'lud, I haven't killed anyone; surely you can let me off these rape charges!"
2 "I haven't been in a 'plane for more than twenty years; so I should be entitled to another couple of progeny!"

Well, going by the quotes and working out parrallels between that and your CF, I'd guess he's really saying that just because you don't plan on having children doesn't mean the amount of carbon you use isn't important? I must admit, it took me a while... probably wrong anyway!
So Bodie, what do you do?

(And while we're at it, are you single? 'Cos if you are loaded and don't want kids, I know a couple of very attractive single people who might be interested in a catch like you )

the logic isnt flawless as ecosystems may be better able to absorb slow release over time than an imediate release now, but it is certainly true that it is difficult to claim to be completely environmentally responsible if you also have lots of kids
