| | | Open doors.... Walking along the main shopping street of my local market town this morning, I was (again) amazed at how many shops had their doors wedged open. At 9.30, the temperature was about 7C and I could feel the heat coming out of some of the shops. I know that several of them have their heaters postioned immediately above the door as you go in, so therefore a lot of the heat must be going outside.
What a waste! Do the shops seriously think that customers will not enter unless the door is open? I'm sure that in the present economic climate these shops could save money by keeping the door shut and, in so doing, save resources too. |

| | | Re: Open doors.... Strangely, local shops with their doors open do attract more trade, perhaps people are too lazy to push a door open nowadays, it is a difficult descision
for shopkeepers in these hard times perhaps?

Also the fact that many shops run their heating when it's warm outside. It's like entering a sauna

| | | Re: Open doors.... Till I retired I spent the latter ten years servicing domestic appliances, frequently in people's homes, and temp at which some people set central heating astonishes me.
When I opened my shop I frequently recommended certain models of washing machines on the basis of how much hot water they consumed, very few ladies were even remotely interested in that piece of information.

| | | Re: Open doors.... Hi Lyn,
I feel sorry for the small shops where we are.The doors are all open and the poor assistants are freezing.Their bosses think it attracts more trade.
My shop door stays closed to keep the heat in and it doesn't make a difference regarding takings. |

| | | Re: Open doors.... I've often wondered how much It cost to heat Tunbridge Wells Council Offices a year, such a huge old building that's not shy In kicking out the heat and I suspect the heating remains on during the night and over the weekends due to It being such a large old building. Makes me wonder how much It cost to keep our Council office workers warm. I think It's Alot... |

| | | Re: Open doors.... I suppose the sight of an open door is kind of visually attractive to some, not only does it show more of what's inside but it also saves those people opening it in the first place and so entices them?
Afterall, how many WAB'ers open a door for someone, then get everyone running from a 10-mile radius in all directions to get through the door while it's being held open?! |

| | | Re: Open doors.... Shut That Door Is all I hear myself say these days to my Son, he has this habit of leaving the Kitchen door that leads to the stairs open for some reason and all the heat gets sucked up the stairs and leaves downstairs freezing cold. I've stopped saying It now I'm just SHOUTING IT... Will he ever learn I hear myself saying... One day maybe, one day. |
