EITHER IS ANY MORE CORRECT THAN THE OTHER. It's because time is different for each observer and therefore distance is also different for each observer. Relativity: Einstein's theory of relativity in animations and film clips. Einstein Light | Hi - its a horribly complicated situation caused by a simple yet awesome (because of what you learn along the way) piece of deduction about the fundamental laws of physics. No matter how fast you move they are the same. If you were moving with an LHC proton, near the speed of light, you would see the tunnel ahead normally - but the weird thing is the light you see is traveling toward you - at the speed of light. You don't suddenly realize this, because it always was, but what is different is that time has slowed down for you. You would measure the speed, not in miles per hour, because an hour is not as you used to know it. Its more like 2 hours for example. So if you measured how far light would come toward you, in a second say, it would have gone twice as far - because your time is dilated - and you find the same speed for light. Annoying thing is, you dont know when its happening.
Thought Id just mention this as I already had this convo today, and recently we all heard the LHC is in need of repair after just 9 days.

On the theory of time dilation. Red Dwarf deals with really well both the TV series and probably better the first book. A great read for nerds like me.
